Introduction
FLF relies on feedback from administrators, teachers, partners, and students to improve its outreach initiatives. In addition to personal statements from those FLF serves and works with, FLF also gauges changes in students’ substantive knowledge through pre- and post testing. Because of the importance of altering students’ attitudes toward financial management and building responsible behaviors, FLF also conducts pre- and post tests regarding changes in attitudes and behaviors.
The changes in behaviors is profound among the young adults in FLF seminars and workshops as students open bank accounts, monitor their credit scores, take steps to clean up their credit, and budget to save for future goals. As part of the evaluation of FLF’s outreach activities, students keep track of credit score increases, banking activities, and goals and actions related to improving their financial picture. Knowledge gained from program evaluations are used to improve instruction and help FLF understand what needs to be taught to better prepare FLF students for college and careers.
