Jonice Gray Tucker, a partner in the law firm of BuckleySandler LLP, represents corporate and
individual clients in federal and state enforcement agency investigations and litigation, private civil
litigation, and class action litigation. In addition, she conducts internal investigations on behalf of
financial institutions and other corporations.
Ms. Tucker has represented financial institutions in investigations, examinations, and litigation
initiated by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), the United States Department of
Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation, state banking commissions and state attorneys general. She has represented financial
institutions in private class action litigation concerning federal and state fair lending laws, mortgage
fraud, unfair and deceptive trade practices statutes, and consumer privacy laws. Ms. Tucker also
counsels clients regarding consumer dispute resolution procedures and compliance with consumer
protection laws, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, the
Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and the Truth in Lending Act.
In addition to her consumer financial services work, Ms. Tucker has represented corporate clients in
securities-related investigations and litigation brought by the DOJ and the Securities and Exchange
Commission. She has also represented individual clients in criminal matters and related civil
appellate litigation.
Ms. Tucker has spoken and written on a variety of legal issues impacting financial institutions,
including secondary market liability, mortgage fraud, mortgage servicing best practices and dispute
resolution techniques. Ms. Tucker is a co-founder of the Financial Literacy Foundation, a non-profit
organization based in Washington, DC, which provides financial management courses, such as
budgeting, banking, wise use of credit, and wealth building strategies, to high school students in
underserved communities.
Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Tucker served as a law clerk to the Honorable Marvin J.
Garbis of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, 2000-2001
Ms. Tucker received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2000 and her B.A. from the University of
Virginia in 1996 (Phi Beta Kappa).
