FLF hires only the most qualified instructors to teach its financial education courses and workshops. All FLF teachers have backgrounds and degrees in business or finance related disciplines and have teaching experience in urban school settings. FLF instructors are carefully selected to meet the needs of the schools and students where they will be assigned. The FLF model includes hiring uniquely qualified instructors, certifying the instructors through DCPS, and matching the teachers with specific schools. Full-time FLF instructors are expected to teach three to four courses at several schools, with one to two classes per school. Although FLF teachers may only be at a school for one class each day, they are expected to become part of the school community. FLF instructors are responsible for attending parent-teacher conferences, maintaining attendance records, assigning grades, and mentoring their students. FLF teachers have written letters of recommendation for college and special programs, tutored students in other subjects, edited college essays, and helped with SAT preparation.
